Can your choir come and perform at our event?
We love singing in public, but we’re primarily a ‘singing for fun’ group. The full costs of one performance are around £120 in fees/travel expenses for our choir leader, admin expenses such as printing, room hire/rehearsal time, also to include a small donation to choir funds. If you’d like us to perform at a private or commercial event, please put in a request to one of the organisers via email to r.leach@keele.ac.uk or c.l.t.stevens@keele.ac.uk
We do sometimes ‘donate’ a performance for free to charities and other organisations if they are a good cause, but it can be quite tricky to get a full choir together, especially at short notice. We need at least three months notice for a request to perform, to allow us time to work out who can attend, what songs are appropriate, and the level of practice and preparation needed. We get a lot of requests to sing for charity, public/university events and given that most of the members of the choir both work and have many caring responsibilities, it is not always possible to commit to all of these, so please don’t be too disappointed if we say no!
Do I have to be able to sing/read music?
No! We practice all our songs by repetition, and many people who start believe themselves not to be able to sing. Our view is it doesn’t matter – come and enjoy it anyway whatever sound you make. You’ll get more confident the more you sing out loud anyway and you’ll enjoy it…
Can you tell me the average age of your choir please? I am enquiring for my sister who loves singing but the last choir she joined all had music training and were about 103 average age. Thank you in anticipation.
Hi Jackie,
We have ages ranging from mid 20’s to 70’s. I would say the average age was about 40-50, at a rough guess
